From the Archives 2009: Remember when Twitter was still a Novel Idea?  And as such, a mechanism to Annihilate the results of Twittering was needed, and Fast.  Here was my thought at the time...NOTE – I never had time to finish this though piece, it is a interesting view on the subject, and I am well aware that it was never concluded or edited, so yes, it has as many holes as Swiss has cheese, so I welcome all contributions.

This was no hack designed to bring down the tangibles of Twitter, rather, it was a thought exercise on how to make the emerging trends and sentiments the battlefield where trends and their opposites would meet with such orchestrated impact, that when the dust of silicon settled, there would be nothing…..

So, consistent with my belief that very, very few innovations are anything more than marketing buzzicology, we turn to systems that we know, to demonstrate that all  that is new, may in fact be old again…..

Of what Mass and Velocity do I need in order to create a socio-kinetic-bombardment “weapon”  able to disintegrate a Public Opinion existing in a closed communication system?

If I am building a Socio-Kinetic Bombardment Cannon capable of exacting total destruction of a rapidly accelerating Opinion in a closed system defined as Twitter, of what Mass does my projectile need to be, and at what velocity must the projectile be traveling at impact with target?

Of what Mass and Velocity do I need to launch a sentiment-projectile at Twitter such that I facilitate total destruction of a rapidly accelerating 

Twitter as a Kinetically Charged System

System: A system of bodies may have internal kinetic energy due to macroscopic movements of the bodies in the system

The kinetic energy of a system at any instant in time is the sum of the kinetic energies of the bodies it contains

Twitter: A system of bodies known as Tweets

Tweet:  A body that is defined by its data payload and transference

Twitter is a system defined by the activity of end-users.

End-user activity can be defined as Tweets

The kinetic energy of Twitter is greatest when the center of frame mass

COMF = A center of momentum frame, of a system is any inertial frame where the center of mass is at rest.

COM = The center of mass of a system of particles is the point at which the system's whole mass can be considered to be concentrated for the purpose of calculations

Inertial Frame:  a single snapshot of a system, where all subsequent snapshots are subject to the same laws governing the system

 F = ma. Force = mass * acceleration

F = volume of tweets * trend

Acceleration = change in velocity over time

Velocity = rate of change of position

Vector = a line drawn between 2 fixed points

Vector = Force = mass * accel

Center of Mass(COM) = The single point that the system can be considered concentrated for the purpose of calculation(eg. An entity topic)

Center of Momentum Frame(COMF) = The Mass of Tweets without consideration for movement

Kinetic Energy = Total Mass moving at the speed of the COM

KE = Ei + (Mass * Velocity2)/2

Ei = energy of the system when it is not changing(eg. What is the energy of an opinion when it is not changing)

Mass = # of tweets

Velocity = rate of change in position of M

Energy is required to do work

Energy =
Work = Force * Distance

Force =  Mass * Acceleration

Mass  =  Sum of bodies in a system

Acceleration = Change in Velocity over time

Velocity = Rate of change in Position

Vector = the movement of A to B at a Velocity

Twitter contains Energy and Force

Opinion = Entity + Sentiment

Twitter Opinion Mass = # of Tweets sharing a common Opinion

Public Opinion Mass = Prevailing public view on a topic

If we can measure TOM at a Point in Time, (Mass)

And we can measure the rate of change in Sentiment(Acceleration)

We can calculate the Force of the

The faster a mass is accelerating, the bigger the Force it can exert

Or, the bigger the mass, at any acceleration, the more force is can exert

Does KOL opinion on a topic contribute Mass or Velocity?

Work = Force * Distance

If the Work is described as Management Signoff on a Project:

Then the Energy put

Socio Kinetic Bombardment

Damage is incurred when the projectile impacts the target at orbital velocity

the same rate that the target is orbiting around a point or another body

can I build a projectile and launch it at Twitter with such velocity, that the impact is devastating?

Requirements

1.      We must establish that twitter has a mass

2.      We must find the Center of Mass

3.      We must establish the velocity of the mass
