How do You Know?
If you cannot articulate what you "know" and how
you "know" it, then you do not understand the foundational Truth that
is the underpinning of your claim of “knowingness”, and thus you really don't
"know".
Feelings, sensations, intuitions, instincts...generally
accompanied by an explanation of “I don't know why, I just know". What you know is Faith, and until the event
comes to pass, your Faith remains just that, and you do not know Truth.
Humans have to deal with the fact that we have
self-awareness and meta-cognitive abilities.
Because of this human faculty and unlike a frog perhaps, to defend your
"knowingness" by way of metaphysical references is common and is
fundamental to Faith. But Truth does not care what you believe.
The culturally connotative lines crudely drawn between Truth
and Faith are often made blurry, like chalk lines on a sidewalk stepped on by so
many feet. Is there something more
truthful at given moment than a size 10 work shoe crushing and smudging that
delicate line? Add a population, and you can witness Truth coming down hard on
that line many, many times. But a
notable quality of Faith is that it is time-tested and proven capable taking a
proverbial beating, and in most cases not losing its essence.
Seemingly blurred, distorted and misshapen by claims of
"knowing", the fidelity of Truth remains in focus, but blurry are the
eyes of the beholder. Easy enough to fix
however: just remove all sentiment.
How do I know that I am right? I don’t.
